Read a little article in the Dayton Daily News … a sports piece I think.
Or maybe an opinion column by a sports writer.

Anyway he was mentioning that cigars are a no-no in every major-league press box.
But that doesn’t stop him from sticking unlit ones in his mouth.

The name of the article was “No smoking, but you can still chew on cigars“.

I’ve never been a big fan of “Chewing” a cigar.
Gnawing on the end of a cigar (lit or otherwise) just makes the cut rough…
and can get little pieces of tobacco in your mouth - not to mention the possible damage that can be done to the draw and overall smoking experience.

So I’m interested in YOUR feedback.
Do you prefer a pristine cut cigar throughout or is there some macho “chewing” going on when you smoke?

personally I don’t and the thought to has never really occured to me.

I do chew every once in a while when on long trips in the van. Most of the time the cigar will be down to a nub anyway. But I would have to say most of the time I like a nice clean cut.

I do not chew as a general rule. Usually someone who chews on the end is addicted to nicotine and is chewing on the cigar to get their fix from the leaves. I could buy a can of chew (and the much higher risk of oral cancer) for a lot less than a good cigar. Of course, if a “chewer” was chomping down on some nasty dog-rocket, they might save money on the deal and avoid the stigma of being a chewing tobacco user.

No I don’t however I do know of people that do. If I decide to chew I buy a can of schole.

I’m with TomC - it never occurred to actually chew on the cigar, though I might pinch it or lightly bite down on it if there was a problem with the draw.

I guess this cigar chewing thing has been popular for a while. I remember from a Will Smith song about 10 years ago regarding cigars: “I just bite it/ it’s for the look, I don’t light it…” Of course, the cigar he was talking about was from Cuba.
